Welcome to the Discernment Counseling Hub!

This is your resource library for all things DC—minus the fluff and plus the stuff you actually need.

Inside: toolkits, trainings, scripts, frameworks, awkward money talk guides, and permission to stop pretending you have it all figured out. Whether you're new to DC or knee-deep in “mixed-agenda purgatory,” you’ll find something here to make the work more grounded, more doable, and more honest.

Start with a free resource. Stay for the validation.

Meet Lyn

Hi, I’m Lyn Martin, LMFT (she/her), currently in residency to become a Master Practitioner in Discernment Counseling—which basically means I’ve committed to spending a disturbing amount of time helping couples decide whether to stay, leave, or just stop emotionally ghosting each other across the kitchen table. I'm one of only a handful of therapists on this track, and I offer consultation, training, and unfiltered honesty for other clinicians doing this work.

I specialize in helping therapists hold the messiness of Discernment Counseling with both structure and soul. That includes staying grounded when one partner is clinging and the other is halfway out the door, when secrets linger, when trauma histories take over the room, and when therapists themselves feel pulled into the undertow. My work blends attachment theory, trauma healing, and clinical clarity with a heavy dose of realism (and caffeine).

I have deep experience working with couples who carry early attachment wounds and show up in therapy guarded, angry, or already halfway gone. I also bring cultural humility and a neurodiversity-affirming lens to this work—because many couples on the brink are dealing with more than communication issues; they’re navigating power, culture, and neurological mismatch in systems never built for them.

This hub is for therapists who want more than vague encouragement or scripts pulled from a PDF. It’s for the ones doing the real work—who care about accessibility, sustainability, and holding people in the hardest moments of relational reckoning without losing themselves in the process.
